The 2237 from Empower RF Systems is a Solid-State Class AB Pulsed Power Amplifier System that operates from 1 to 2 GHz. The system can be scaled up in power by using (stacking) multiple building blocks (amplifiers). Each amplifier “building block” includes an integrated power supply in its 2U chassis. The power combining feature with hot-swapping provides an affordable upgrade path for mission-critical applications.
The amplifier delivers more than 40 kW of peak pulsed output power with a gain of more than 76 dB. It comprises of multi-drawer integrated subsystems which feature multiple high-power GaN devices that can be used to provide wide frequency response, high gain, high peak power, and low distortions. The amplifier has a duty cycle from 0.5 to 20 %, a pulse width from 0.2 to 500 µs, and a pulse rise/fall time of 25 ns. It has a 2nd harmonic of -40 dBc and spurious levels of less than -60 dBc.
The 2237 includes a built-in control and monitoring system, with protection functions that preserve maximum output availability and reliability. Remote management and diagnostics can be done via an Ethernet port. The system can be controlled remotely by a web browser or M2M (machine to machine interface) or locally by a panel computer. The control system runs an embedded OS (Linux), has a built-in non-volatile memory for factory setup. It is available in a rackmount enclosure that measures 40U in height and 40” in depth with N-Type Female input connector and WRD-840U24 output interface.
