The HMC524A from Analog Devices is a GaAs MMIC I/Q Mixer with an RF/LO frequency from 22 to 32 GHz and an IF frequency from DC to 4.5 GHz. It can be used as either an image reject mixer or a single-sideband up-converter. This passive mixer requires no DC bias and uses two standard double-balanced mixer cells and a 90° hybrid coupler fabricated in a GaAs, MESFET process. In down-conversion mode, it has a noise figure of 15 dB, a conversion loss of less than 13 dB and provides image rejection of more than 18 dB. In up-conversion mode, it has a conversion loss of 6 dB and provides side-band rejection of 26 dB. This mixer provides an LO to RF isolation of 35 dB, an LO to IF isolation of 25 dB and an RF to IF isolation of 36 dB.
The HMC524A is available in a 12-lead SMT ceramic package that measures 3 x 3 mm and is ideal for point-to-point radios, point-to-multipoint radios and VSAT, test equipment and sensors and military end-use applications.
