The R&S FSPN50 from Rohde & Schwarz is a Phase Noise Analyzer + Voltage-Controlled Oscillator (VCO) Tester with a frequency range from 1 MHz to 50 GHz. It has very high metrological accuracy and measures phase noise from highly stable sources such as synthesizers, VCOs, OCXOs, and DROs in radar and satellite applications. This system consists of two low-phase noise synthesizers and a real-time cross-correlation engine for increased measurement sensitivity. It supports simultaneous measurement of phase noise and amplitude noise and displays results for both measurements in a common diagram or in separate windows. This testing system with high-speed measurements and easy usability is ideal for efficient phase noise analysis in R&D and on production lines.

The R&S FSPN50 has in-built low-noise internal local oscillators that allow measurement of all commercially available synthesizers and oscillators without requiring the purchase of additional options. It has extremely low-noise internal DC sources to enable phase noise measurement of the VCO at various tuning and supply voltages. This system can calculate the Allan variance for phase noise measurements to characterize long-term oscillator frequency stability. It offers up to 8 GHz of bandwidth for detailed characterization of switched sources, synthesizer frequency hops and frequency ramps. Along with the wideband analysis, the R&S®FSPN offers narrowband analysis down to 40 MHz for a detailed examination of the transient PLL response.

The R&S FSPN50 displays measurement results such as SSB phase noise, spurious levels, integrated RMS phase deviation, residual FM, and time jitter on a 12.1-inch display. It performs SCPI recording to easily conduct automated test sequencing and allows the export of scripts written in Python, MATLAB, or C# to replicate manual measurements. This system has a dynamic range from -20 dBm to +30 dBm with a frequency resolution of 0.01 Hz (PNA). It measures frequency, RF power, DC supply current, and tuning sensitivity with the built-in VCO tester with a frequency resolution from 100 mHz to 100 kHz.

The R&S FSPN50 is available in a benchtop enclosure that measures 462 x 240 x 504 mm with N-type (female) connectors. It requires an AC supply from 100 to 240 V and consumes 235 W of power.
