The BGT60TR13C from Infineon Technologies is a Radar Sensor that operates from 58 to 63.5 GHz. This sensor is ideal for short-range sensing applications such as radar front-end for gesture sensing, high-resolution FMCW radars, and hidden sensing applications behind a radome. It has 1 Tx antenna to transmit frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) signals and 3 Rx antennas to receive the echo signals from the target object.
This radar sensor has three ADC channels with 12-bit resolution and a sampling rate of up to 4 MSps to sample the RF-IF channels. It has a full-duplex FIFO structure as a data buffer with optimized power models for low power operation. The sensor requires a single DC supply of 1.8 V, draws less than 230 mA of current in active mode, less than 5 mA of current in idle mode, and 0.12 mA of current in deep sleep mode.
The BGT60TR13C is fabricated on a BiCMOS Infineon process and has an integrated RF-PLL, timers, counters, and FSM to run a set of frames in standalone mode (no communication with AP required except first trigger and raw data transfer). It has Built-in Test Equipment (BITE) for EOL tests in production to verify the RF performance with an allocation of 8 to 10-bit sensor ADCs for power and temperature measurements. The baseband chain consists of a high pass filter, low noise voltage gain amplifier (VGA), and antialiasing filters.
The radar sensor is available in a laminated package that measures 6.5 × 5.0 × 0.9 mm and is equipped with an integrated Finite-State Machine (FSM).
