The V-MD3 from RFbeam Microwave is a 3D Radar Transceiver that operates from 60 to 64 GHz. This FMCW radar transceiver has integrated signal processing and tracking algorithms and can measure the speed, direction, distance, and angle (in azimuth and elevation) of moving and static objects. It contains a radar front end with 3 Tx and 4 Rx patch antennas paired with a powerful FPGA signal processing chain. This module comes with comprehensive functionalities for quick and simplified object detection, observation, and measurements. It requires a DC supply of 12/24 V and consumes less than 600 mA of current.
In Tx mode, this transceiver provides an output power (EIRP) of 15 dBm with a phase noise of -80 dBc/Hz (@100 kHz offset) and has spurious emission of -30 dBc. In Rx mode, it has a receiver sensitivity of -141 dBm, can support up to 150 raw targets, and has an update rate of 130 ms. It has a typical detection distance of 30 m for persons and 80 m for cars. The transceiver has an Ethernet connection for reading out data and for sensor configuration as well as two configurable digital outputs for simple area surveillance or collision avoidance systems. It is possible to read out sensor data from different processing stages, which offers maximum flexibility for easy integration in different customer environments.
The V-MD3 has a digital structure and wide power supply range which makes it suitable for use in any standalone or MCU-based application. It is available in an IP65-rated housing that measures 76.0 x 56.0 x 27.6 mm with M12 plugs. It is ideal for use in people counting, area surveillance, collision avoidance, security applications, industrial measurements, level measurements, and traffic analysis and classification applications.
