The SM435B from Signal Hound is a real-time spectrum analyzer and monitoring receiver that operates from 100 kHz to 43.5 GHz. It has 160 MHz of instantaneous bandwidth, a dynamic range of 110 dB, 1 THz/sec sweep speed at 30 kHz RWB (using Nutwall windowing), and ultra low phase noise. The low levels of phase noise rival some of the more expensive spectrum analyzers on the market.
Signal processing is distributed between a very powerful Altera FPGA and an external PC having an Intel Core i7 processor. The analyzer can be controlled and interfaced using its local API, to an automated monitoring system, or to automated test equipment. The API provides customers access to insert their own DSP algorithms into a calibrated stream of I/Q data. The analyzer uses Signal Hound's Spike spectrum analysis software, featuring real time analysis, WLAN modulation, digital demodulation, and interference hunting measurements amount others.
This signal analyzer can be used across a broad range of applications from 5G cellular, to military, aerospace, and a host of other uses. It includes built-in GPS for automatic time and geolocation stamping of the received signals.
