The Trimension SR150 from NXP Semiconductors is an ultra-wideband (UWB) positioning and ranging IC that operates from 6 to 8.5 GHz. It is both forward and backward compatible with IEEE 802.15.4 HRP UWB. With a 500-MHz bandwidth and a pulse rate of 2 ns, it supports high-resolution ranging, with LoS accuracy within a range of ±10 cm. It has a Tx peak power of more than +10 dBm and a receiver noise figure of +4 dB. The IC is based on an Arm Cortex-M33 processor with a dual Rx antenna that enables two channels for ToF and AoA functionalities, and radar algorithms.
The Trimension SR150 is integrated with security hardware accelerators that protect overall operation for high-level RF security. It also has an added level of security feature which is used for access control to protect the privacy that comes with the exchange of access credentials. The added protection makes this IC more resistant to attempts to trick the system.
The Trimension SR150 is available in a WLCSP68 package and is suitable for use in applications such as trackers and TDoA tags, location service anchors, smart home control, secure hands-free access control, consumer electronics, and ecosystems for secure transactions. Several Trimension SR150 IC based devices can be placed in a room as UWB anchors to help localize people and objects as they move within the room.
