The ADMV1239 from Analog Devices is an Up-Down Converter and Beamformer that operates from 37 to 43.5 GHz. It integrates a 16 (2x8) channel beamformer paired with a 2 transmit (TX) and 2 receive (RX) channel upconverter/downconverter (UDC). This RFIC has on-chip transmit-receive switches that connect the upconverter RF output and downconverter RF input for each polarization into eight independent channels via the 1x8 power splitters/combiners. In the upconversion chain, it provides sideband rejection and carrier feedthrough optimization and includes an envelope detector for LO feedthrough calibration and a single-channel power detector. In the downconversion mode, it has integrated individual RX channel overload detection circuits. It includes an on-chip temperature sensor for automatic RX and TX gain compensation.
The ADMV1239 also has an option for external filtering for spurious rejection and an envelope detector for LO feedthrough calibration. It is available in a chip scale ball grid array package that allows heatsinking from the topside of the package for efficient thermal heatsinking and for flexible antenna placement on the opposite side of the PCB. This RFIC comes with a 3-wire or 4-wire SPI interface that supports up to 133 MHz SPI clock speed.
