The M8199B from Keysight Technologies is a High-Speed Arbitrary Waveform Generator with an analog bandwidth of more than 80 GHz. It integrates up to 8 channels that are synchronized at 256 Giga samples per second (GSa/s) and has a DAC resolution of 8-bit. This generator has a built-in frequency and phase response calibration function to produce clean output signals and is ready to be used out of the box. It is designed to provide R&D engineers with a high-performance signal source to process arbitrary real-world signals and enable the development of designs employing multi-level modulation formats beyond 160 Giga-Baud.
The M8199B offers industry-leading speed, bandwidth, precision, and flexibility to meet the challenges of next-generation applications, enabling data transmission greater than 400 Gbps per lane in intensity-modulation/direct-detect (IM/DD) and over 1.6 Tbps per carrier in coherent optical communications. It provides a continuous sampling rate of 200-256 GSa/s and has a waveform memory of 1 MSa per channel. This waveform generator provides the flexibility needed for advanced research on new modulation formats using multi-level pulse-amplitude modulation (PAM), quadrature-amplitude modulation (QAM) formats, and other proprietary modulation formats.
The M8199B generates stress signals to test next-generation electro/optical components, digital signal processor ASICs (DSP-ASICs), and new algorithm concepts for multi-terabit transmission systems. It generates signals in the intermediate frequency (IF) range rather than on Quadrature, which supports various radar and wireless technologies that require a generation of high-quality signals with a bandwidth of more than 10 GHz. It is available in a 2-slot AXie modular enclosure.
