The SiT7201 from SiTime is a Commerical-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) MEMS Temperature Controlled Crystal Oscillator (TCXO) that operates from 10 to 60 MHz. This TCXO’s design can replace a fragile and bulky oven-controlled crystal oscillator (OCXO) in equipment that is designed for rough environments. This TCXO ensures excellent dynamic stability under airflow, fast temperature ramp, and vibration-prone environments. It eliminates the need for frequency multipliers and data converters and removes frequency shifts caused by board noise. This TCXO provides LVCMOS/Clipped Sinewave output waveforms with a phase noise of -159 dBc/Hz (at 10 kHz offset) and has a frequency stability of ±0.1/±0.2/±0.25 ppm.
The SiT7201 has excellent Allan deviation of 1 x 10-11 to reduce the error rate in processing signals with long integration time, such as encrypted signals. It has a phase jitter of ±110 fs and a g-sensitivity of 0.01 ppb/g. This oscillator can digitally tune the frequency with a resolution of 5 x 10-14 and can be controlled using I2C or SPI. It requires a DC supply from 1.8 to 3.3 V and uses on-chip regulators, that eliminate the need for external LDOs simplifying the bill of materials (BOM).
The SiT7201 is available in a ceramic surface-mount package that measures 5.0 x 3.5 mm and is ideal for manpack radios, LEO SATCOM, SATCOM terminals, electronic defense, GPS, avionics, and radar applications.
