The 88W8987 from NXP Semiconductors is Wi-Fi + Bluetooth SoC that operates in the 2.4/5 GHz frequency bands. This Wi-Fi + Bluetooth SoC has been designed to support the speed, reliability and quality requirements for automotive applications. The System-on-Chip (SoC) provides simultaneous and independent operation of IEEE 802.11ac (Wave 2), 1x1 with data rates up to MCS9 (433 Mbit/s), and Bluetooth 5, also provides Bluetooth Smart Ready operation. It has an integrated front end resulting in a low external component cost. The SoC supports MU-MIMO receive, Wi-Fi Stations (STA) and Wi-Fi Direct (P2P). It supports Bluetooth 5.2 support, including Bluetooth Low Energy 5.1 with data rate of 2 Mbps.
The 88W8987 has Virtual Dual MAC (via optimized DRCS), and a 2-antenna configuration for Wi-Fi/Bluetooth coexistence. It supports the latest WPA3 encryption. The SoC meets the requirements for high-temp environments and is AEC-Q100 Grade 3 (-40°C to 85°C) qualified. It is available in a 68-pin QFN package that measures 8 x 8 mm and is suitable for use in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), and in-vehicle infotainment applications.
