What is a Switch Matrix?
A switch matrix is an array of RF switches arranged to route RF (radio frequency) signals between multiple inputs and multiple outputs. It is ideal for use in RF and microwave systems to route signals between the multiple test instruments to single or multiple DUTs, antenna switching, signal distribution in communication systems, and general RF switching applications. Even though the switch matrix has the multiple-input, multiple-output, it can allow a single connection from any input to any output at a time.
Usually, in addition to signal routing, the switch matrix may also consist of passive signal conditioning components such as splitter, attenuator, and filters, as well as active signal conditioning such as amplification and frequency converters to meet the switching application requirements. Switch matrices are available for both 50Ω and 75Ω impedance and can be locally/remotely controlled.
Switch matrices are available in various configurations with an M x N matrix being able to switch between M inputs and N outputs. They are ideal for use in RF testing systems for commercial, aerospace, and defense sectors, production test automation, multi-channel/MIMO /4G & 5G radio testing, 5G node/device testing, automated test equipment, redundancy switching, handover testing, SATCOM signal routing and used in testing a wide range of RF and telecommunication products and devices.
