Latvia Acquires Three TPS-77 Multi-Role Radars from Lockheed Martin

The Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Latvia and Lockheed Martin have signed a contract for three TPS-77 Multi-Role Radars (MRR) for use in air surveillance and to complement radar assets already in place. The TPS-77 MRR is designed for ultra-low power consumption and is the most transportable version of Lockheed Martin's successful TPS-77 product line. Latvia's variant of this high-performing radar can be truck mounted for operation at unprepared sites or dismounted for use at fixed sites.

RF Inductors Achieve for Higher Military Rating

Gowanda Electronics, a designer and manufacturer of precision electronic components for radio frequency applications, has announced that it has achieved a failure rate Level R on two more of its MIL-PRF-39010 RF Inductor Series – ER15M and ER18M – adding to the company’s series already approved to Level R – ER10M and ER17S. These four thru-hole series meet the military’s Qualified Product List (QPL) requirements for Established Reliability (ER) and address ten different MIL-PRF-39010 slash numbers (/01 through /10). This approval required extensive testing for electrical, environmental, mechanical and thermal performance. Level R represents the most reliable off-the-shelf inductors for high-reliability applications.

New Patriot Radar to use GaN based Antenna Array Technology

Threats such as drones, aircraft, and cruise/ballistic missiles may simultaneously attack deployed U.S. forces or America's allies from multiple directions in the future. Raytheon will soon upgrade the combat-proven Patriot Air and Missile Defense System's radar that provides 360-degrees of protection from those threats.

Northrop to Develop Long-Range Radar for the US Army

Northrop Grumman has been selected by the U.S. Army to develop the Airborne Reconnaissance Low-Enhanced (ARL-E) Long-Range Radar. Under terms of the indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract, Northrop Grumman will develop a synthetic aperture radar (SAR)/ground moving target indicator (GMTI) system for the ARL-E DHC-8 (Seen in the Image).

Anritsu has enhanced its line-up of millimeter-wave measurement solutions with the launch of a new High Performance Waveguide Mixer (60 to 90 GHz) MA2808A for the company's popular Signal/Spectrum Analyzer MS2830A. Combining the newly released MA2808A with the MS2830A in the 26.5 GHz/43 GHz configuration (MS2830A-044/045) supports development and production of equipment for both E-band (70/80 GHz) wireless backhaul as well as automobile collision avoidance radar (77/79 GHz).

NuWaves Wins Air Force Contract for GPS Satellite RF Filters

NuWaves Engineering has announced they have been awarded a Phase II Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract from the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) to develop and test an advanced triplexer in support of AFRL’s Global Positioning System (GPS) technology development program. Under the AFRL-sponsored technology development effort, NuWaves Engineering and Exelis Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Harris Corp., will investigate, design, fabricate and test an innovative broadband, high-power-handling, low-insertion-loss triplexer designed to work on the GPS navigation payload.

GaAs RF Device Revenue to Surpass $8 Billion in 2015

Driven by increasing GaAs content in cellular terminals, the GaAs device market experienced another year of record revenues. According to a report by Strategy Analytics GaAs device revenue will break the $7 billion barrier this year and surpass $8 billion before the end of the forecast period. The report states that GaAs device revenue will grow, even though price erosion and competitive technologies will slow the growth rates. Despite continuing concern in some quarters about the future of GaAs devices, the market saw its second consecutive year of double-digit growth.

Lockheed Martin Working with Wolfspeed to Develop Space Fence

Satellites. Spent rocket boosters. Stray hardware. Debris from in-space collisions. The need to accurately track the estimated 500,000 objects floating in space is only increasing. Lockheed Martin’s Space Fence design will significantly improve the timeliness with which operators can detect space events which could present potential threats to GPS satellites or the International Space Station. The Space Fence team recently reached a major milestone by confirming the long-term reliability of its Gallium Nitride high power amplifiers (GaN HPAs) – the technology that will allow for an increase in the amount of space junk tracked by 10-fold over the current system. Lockheed Martin is working on Space Fence in partnership with Space Military Command and the U.S. Air Force Life Cycle Management Center/Space Command Control and Surveillance Division.
