Processing Unit for a RADAR-based ADAS System
Radar-based Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) assists drivers of an intelligent transportation vehicle to sense stationary and moving objects. These systems rely on real-time processing units that require both cost-effective architectures and high-bandwidth DDR DRAM interfaces.
This white paper presents an FPGA-based architecture that hosts the processing unit of a multi-channel FMCW radar system. The system supports 8 channels with a peak data rate of 4.096 Gb/s. The processing unit includes a Zynq-7020 SoC and 1 GB DDR3 SDRAM with 32 Gb/s bandwidth. It implements windowed Fourier processing and a proprietary reduction task to determine the range, relative velocity, and angular position of the approaching object(s).
