Diamond Microwave, a specialist in high performance microwave power amplifiers, has streamlined its range of compact microwave GaN-based pulsed solid-state power amplifiers (SSPA) onto two common platforms, along with the introduction of new X-band 400W and 900W ‘smart’ PA models. They are showcasing these products at IMS 2017 in Honolulu, Hawaii from 6-8 June, 2017.
The flagship DM-X400-02 is a smart X-band SSPA that operates from 8100 MHz to 9500 MHz with an output power of 400 watts. It has a pulse width up to 100 µs and a duty cycle up to 15% with a rise/fall time below 50 ns. The DM-X200-01 is another amplifier that has been built on this same platform that provides 200 watts of power.
The DM-X1K0-03 GaN PA, comprises of two DM-X400-02 models combined externally with a low-loss combiner to provide in excess of 900 W across a 5% bandwidth. The 900 W model is an assembly that can be provided in two alternative form factors - either with the amplifiers arranged edge-to-edge or with a common heat sink sandwiched between the pair. Each amplifier is phase matched to optimize the power combining. An N-type output connector is fitted as standard, but waveguide can be offered as an option. These amplifiers can be controlled and monitored via Ethernet.
The second platform is simpler. The Diamond Microwave 100 W models at X and Ku-band are based on this platform. They operate from 2.0 GHz to 6.0 GHz and do not require the sophisticated Ethernet monitoring provided by the smart platform. These amplifiers have a smaller footprint.
