The Danish Ministry of Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO) has recently entered into an agreement with the Netherlands' Defense procurement agency COMMIT (Commando Materieel en IT) for the acquisition of five state-of-the-art Thales Ground Master 200 Multi-Mission Compact radars (GM200 MM/C). These advanced radar systems are poised to fortify air surveillance and air defense capabilities for the Danish Air Force.
The Thales GM200 MM/C radar system boasts a multitude of features aimed at providing enhanced situational awareness, operational superiority, fire support, and weapon location capabilities. Notably, it addresses contemporary threats, including the rising concern of drone warfare, by employing cutting-edge technology for accurate detection, tracking, and classification of various airborne and missile threats, including drones. This technology, known as 4D AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array), offers radar operators more time-on-target to assess incoming threats comprehensively.
One of the key benefits of the GM200 MM/C is its adaptability, with the ability to seamlessly switch between fixed location mode and high mobility. This ensures rapid deployment, ease of transportation on different platforms, and future readiness through software-defined radar technology that can accommodate evolving threats and doctrines.
This procurement is a testament to the strong cooperation between Denmark and the Netherlands within the framework. Both nations' identical configurations of the GM200 MM/C radar system enable them to collaborate effectively for identical future updates and support.
Lieutenant General Kim Jesper Jørgensen, Chief of the Danish Ministry of Defense Acquisition and Logistics Organization (DALO), emphasized the importance of acquiring these mobile radars, particularly in the context of the current political security situation. Vice Admiral Jan Willem Hartman, Commander at COMMIT, highlighted the significance of allies supporting each other and strengthening their defense forces through interoperable materiel.
Gerben Edelijn, CEO of Thales Netherlands, underscored the significance of this government-to-government contract, emphasizing that it will provide a common radar platform for future collaborative efforts between the Danish Air Force and the Dutch Armed Forces.
