HENSOLDT, a leading specialist in sensor technology, has strengthened its position as a national leader in air defence with a significant new contract. Rheinmetall Air Defence has awarded HENSOLDT a contract worth nearly 100 Million Euros to supply SPEXER radars for the advanced Skyranger 30 anti-aircraft gun tank.
HENSOLDT's SPEXER 2000
The Skyranger 30 is Rheinmetall Air Defence's latest development, intended to replace the Gepard FlakPz in the Bundeswehr's newly established air defence force. Central to this upgrade is the integration of HENSOLDT's SPEXER 2000 radar, known for its superior detection performance. This radar system enables the Skyranger 30's weaponry to achieve maximum effectiveness, offering exceptional target classification and precise tracking capabilities even during movement or flight.
The SPEXER radars will be deployed in Skyranger tanks for several nations, including Germany, Austria, and Denmark. The German Skyranger 30 will be based on the GTK Boxer platform and will be equipped with the Stinger guided missile. The Austrian system will be based on the Pandur EVO platform and will be equipped with the Mistral guided missile along with the 30mm revolver cannon.
HENSOLDT's SPEXER radar series offers high-performance surveillance capabilities across various ranges, capable of automatically detecting and classifying ground, sea, and low-flying air targets. The SPEXER 2000 radar is utilized in several critical defence programs, including the German cUAS field camp (ASUL), qualified air defence systems, HoWiSM (high-energy laser for drone defence), and NNbS programs for close and short-range air defence.
With decades of experience in radar systems, HENSOLDT continues to advance air defence technology. Beyond the SPEXER series, HENSOLDT's portfolio includes the TRML-4D high-performance radar, the Twinvis passive radar, and radars for securing maritime and aerial traffic. Both the TRML-4D and SPEXER radars are integral to the Bundeswehr's NNbS air defence system, which was commissioned in January.
