Cobham Antenna Systems has launched a ‘Universal’ range of spring-mount omni-directional antennas. This range of antennas are designed for applications where lives can depend on secure communications or where a loss of signal can result in severe financial implications.
At every stage of the design process meticulous care has been taken to ensure excellent build quality. Every element of the antennas have been considered separately such as: The wideband machined bi-cone antenna elements which provide excellent patterns and high power; Rugged glass fibre radome for high impact resistance; Flush top cap to ensure that the antenna does not get caught when flexing; Ultra-flex cable with protective sheath to ensure a long life even when flexed; High tensile spring for severe applications; Heavy-duty connector interface for rugged use; Choice of connector.
To ensure quality and consistency Cobham’s engineering team has built a custom made test rig which flexes the spring-mounts 1000 times to 90°. This has allowed the team to prove the quality of this range and not to repeat the flaws in competitor models.
Variants cover L-Band, S-Band and C-Band frequencies. Connector options for each band include: N(M) Fixed; N(M) Spinning; TNC(M) Fixed and TNC(M) Spinning. Fixed - Connector is captive and the whole antenna must be rotated to tighten. Spinning - Connector rotates independently of the antenna for multiple applications.
The spring mount antenna range will be launched at UAS 2015 on the 1-2 December at Twickenham Stadium, UK. Until 2015 UAS has traditionally had an Air only focus, however this year the conference includes Land and Maritime making it the perfect venue to launch this range.
