Skyworks has announced that several of its semiconductor solutions are powering the latest LG Online Connectivity Units (OCU) being leveraged across Volkswagen automobiles to enhance connectivity and convenience. The OCUs offer drivers seamless access to features such as smart home and location-based services from their vehicles. With more than a quarter of global vehicles expected to be connected to the internet by 2020, Skyworks is capitalizing on the need for advanced, next generation wireless devices addressing this growing market opportunity. Specifically, LG is leveraging eight Skyworks products, including advanced analog control ICs and integrated front-end modules.

Skyworks automotive design wins with LG demonstrate how they are leveraging their mobile connectivity expertise, partnerships and scale to expand their reach across the Internet of Things. According to PwC’s Strategy& 2015 study, Volkswagen ranked first for connected car innovation for both safety and infotainment.

In June 2016, The Volkswagen Group and LG Electronics had signed a memorandum of understanding on joint research and development of a next-generation connected car service platform. The two companies decided to work together on Volkswagen's Cross-Over-Platform, which is aimed at enhanced vehicle connectivity and convenience. Using the latest in cloud technology, the Online Connectivity Units offer drivers seamless digital access to extensive features such as smart home and location-based services.
