Could the iPhone 8 have Wirless Charging? Apple Finally Joins Wireless Power Consortium

Will the next iPhone have Wirless Charging capabilities? This question finally seems to have an answer as Apple recently joined Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) - developer of Qi wireless charging system - as a listed member. This news comes amid the rising rumors of Apple stepping up its ante in the already booming wireless charging industry. So it seems the users of next iphone may have a tangle free life enjoying the benefits of wireless charging.

Even before the release of the iPhone 7, there has been much speculation about the integration of wireless charging in iPhones. Apple joining the WPC as a member, now gives positive hopes to analysts and market experts that new the new iPhone (iPhone 8) will be equipped with wireless charging capabilities.

According to an IHS Technology Analyst, the growing demand of wireless charging among consumers and the absolute success of rival companies in adopting the new technology has boosted the requisites for Apple to join the fray. IHS expects around 350 million wireless-chargeable devices to ship this year, a market largely driven by Samsung Electronics, which has included the capability in its top-of-the-range phones since the launch of the Galaxy S6 in 2015.

Apple has already been using a revamped version of Qi tech for charging their Apple Watches. However them joining the WPC as a member, shows that they want to participate and contribute ideas to the open, collaborative development of future wireless charging standards.

It is high time that Apple looks at integrating wireless charging in to its new iPhones, as they are already behind their competitors in the adoption of this technology.
