u-blox Multi-Radio Module Gets ATEX Certification for Use In Hazardous Environments

u-blox has announced that its ODIN-W2 stand-alone IoT gateway module has achieved ATEX certification for use in potentially explosive atmospheres (zone 0). Already designed to withstand harsh environmental and electrical conditions, the professional grade, dual band Wi-Fi and dual-mode Bluetooth module is now certified for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, found in the oil and gas, mining, petrochemical industries and more.

The u-blox ODIN-W2 multi-radio module has achieved both ATEX and IECEx certification for use in explosive atmospheres. The ATEX Directive (2014/34/EU), valid for Europe, and IECEx certification, valid in most regions outside the EU, require equipment to be designed and tested to ensure it does not initiate an explosion, due to an electric arc or high temperature of this equipment. As a certified module, ODIN-W2 is an easy and cost-effective way to integrate wireless connectivity into devices designed for use in such hazardous environments.

u-blox professional grade modules are designed and tested for use in harsh environments. With a wide operating temperature range, from -40 to 85C, and ISO 16750 qualification, they are rugged enough to be used in vehicle and industrial applications.

With an embedded Bluetooth stack, Wi-Fi driver, IP stack, and an application for wireless transfer, the ODIN-W2 is a compact and powerful stand-alone multiradio module designed for Internet-of-Things gateway applications. The module supports dual-mode Bluetooth and dual-band Wi-Fi across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, including simultaneous Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections. With a simple AT command interface, the ODIN-W2 is easy to integrate into end products. Click here to learn more.
