Siklu Introduces Microwave Backhaul Solutions with External Antennas to Extend Range

Siklu has introduced new models of its microwave backhaul radios for the lightly licensed 70 GHz mmWave band. These new models have the option of external one foot and two-foot antennas to further enhance the range.

The EH-700 and EH-710 operate in a TDD format in the lightly licensed 70 GHz mmWave band, and offer support for aggregated capacities as low as 100 Mbps, reaching all the way to 1 Gbps. While the existing 16 cm integrated antenna model satisfies a plurality of application needs, there are times when a deployment just needs to reach further. With options for an external one-foot or two-foot antenna, the EH‑7XX supports this need for additional range. Customers can still use the EH-7XX with a smaller 16 cm antenna where needed (not FCC approved).

Operating as a TDD solution supports applications where symmetry or asymmetry in the uplink and downlink capacity is required, achieving this in a carrier-class product. By adding the EH-7XX to the Hundred Series of Siklu PTP products, Siklu continues to expand its already extensive portfolio of mmWave E-band solutions. The small form factor product also includes an integrated MEF-compliant 3-ports gigabit Ethernet switch, with up to 50W to total POE output, satisfying the power needs of many Smart-City deployments with a single wire to cameras or Wi-Fi access points.

Siklu also unveiled an extended frequency range model of its leading EH-600 PtP 60 GHz series: the EH-614TX.

This year both OFCOM in the UK and the FCC in the US have extended the license-exempt V-band spectrum up to 71 GHz, for a total of 14 GHz. The EtherHaul 614TX is designed to take advantage of this expansion and operate over the entire 14 GHz band with a single SKU.

Operating in the upper regions of the 60 GHz band allows longer distances, as the oxygen absorption effect centered at 62 GHz has minimal impact. The EH-614TX will typically reach 50% further operating in the 64 to 71 GHz band, when compared to links deployed in the 57 to 64 GHz section. The frequency expansion also allows EH-614TX to tune to a wider choice of frequencies, providing additional spectrum for dense deployments.

This extension of the frequency range for the EH-614TX, and hence extended range, comes in the exact same small form factor with an integrated antenna as the widely deployed EH-600 series (16.7x 16.7x 10.2cm, 6.6x 6.6x 4.0in). This allows street level deployments on poles and other fixtures delivering reliable high-speed connectivity for Smart Cities, including  security surveillance, Public Wi-Fi backhaul, and municipal networks.

The Etherhaul Hundred Series product line is also used extensively in the 5G Gigabit to the Home (GTTH) application as a medium-capacity backhaul. Carriers such as C Spire have designed their 5G GTTH network based on the EH-600 product line as a backhaul solution. With the additional range and more frequency bands, dense 5G GTTH and Smart City networks become even easier. The EH-614TX is also supported by Siklu's SmartHaul WiNDE application, an automated network design tool for PTP and PTMP Siklu radios. For more, information, click here.
