SenRa Enables LoRaWAN Network Services at India’s Premier Technical Institute

The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT Bombay) has signed an agreement with LoRaWAN network provider, SenRa, to enable LoRaWAN services in its campus. IIT Bombay is considered to be one of the top Engineering Universities in India. The agreement will boost technology advancements for solutions to various projects funded by the Government of India.

In 2014, the Government of India launched the “Make in India” program to encourage companies to manufacture their products in India. As part of this initiative, they also set forth funded programs with top Universities to enable development of products made in India leveraging latest technologies while solving problems faced by people in India on a day-to-day basis.

SenRa became a member of the LoRa Alliance, the open, non-profit association, with a mission to standardize the deployment of LPWAN technology across the world to enable IoT, M2M, smart city, and industrial applications, back in May 2017. Since then, they have been providing network services to institutes and companies across India. The LoRa Alliance defines and drives the Long Range Wide Area Network (LoRaWAN) technology. It is an LPWAN specification intended for wireless battery operated devices in a regional, national or global network. It provides seamless interoperability among smart devices without the need for complex local network installations, and empowers users, developers, and businesses, enabling the seamless rollout of IoT solutions.

With the recent successes of LoRaWAN in India, IIT Bombay was intrigued by the technology and sought out the support from companies with expertise in LoRaWAN. As one of the leading LoRaWAN network operators in India, SenRa will now provide network connectivity to IIT Bombay for research and development projects. With this deployment in Mumbai, SenRa’s LoRaWAN network will now be present in twenty cities throughout India and is on track to reach thirty cities by the end of year.
