Atmosic to Integrate CEVA Bluetooth 5 Low Energy IP in Its Battery Free IoT Devices

Atmosic Technologies, an innovator of ultra-low-power wireless SoCs for the Internet of Things, is using CEVA’s RivieraWaves Bluetooth 5 Low Energy (RW-BLE5) IP in its breakthrough M2 and M3 Series IoT SoCs. The SoCs target a diverse range of end markets for low power wireless applications, including wearables, personal and asset trackers, beacons, remotes, keyboards, mice, and more.

With its first range of products, Atmosic is tackling the real world battery-replacement challenge associated with installing and maintaining a plethora of IoT devices. To realize its vision, the company developed a number of innovative RF CMOS technologies, including Low Power Radio, On-demand Wake-up, and Controlled Energy Harvesting.

The Atmosic M2 Series of Bluetooth 5 SoC features a Low Power Radio with On-demand Wake-up and radically enhancing battery life. The power consumption reduction is so substantial that it’s able to reach a technology inflection point where energy harvesting becomes a viable power source. The Atmosic M3 Series Bluetooth 5 SoC expands on the M2 series with Controlled Energy Harvesting, which can provide battery life forever or even eliminate the need for battery power. Both the Series will be demonstrated during the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas from January 8-11, 2019.

CEVA’s RivieraWaves Bluetooth IP platforms provide comprehensive solutions for both Bluetooth LE and Bluetooth dual mode connectivity. Each platform consists of a hardware baseband controller, plus a feature-rich software protocol stack. A flexible radio interface allows the platforms to be deployed with either RivieraWaves RF or various partners’ RF IP, enabling optimal selection of foundry and process node. All Bluetooth 5 features are supported, including LE 2Mbps data rate, Long Range and LE Advertising Extension. With more than 1.5 billion devices shipped to date and dozens of licensees, the RivieraWaves Bluetooth IP is widely deployed in consumer and IoT devices with many of the world’s leading semiconductors companies and OEMs, including smartphones, tablets, wireless speakers, wireless headsets and earbuds, hearing aids and other wearables.
