International Microwave Power Institute Announces New Solid State RF Energy Section

The International Microwave Power Institute (IMPI), a leading scientific organization for non-communication microwave and RF energy, has announced the formation of a new RF Solid State RF Energy Section. It will consist of IMPI members dedicated to realizing solid-state RF energy’s true potential as a clean, highly efficient and controllable heat and power source.

The new Section will hold its first meeting on Friday, June 21st at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada. This meeting will be held at the conclusion of IMPI’s 53rd Annual Microwave Power Symposium (IMPI 53) which will take place from June 18-20, 2019 at the same venue. All IMPI members are welcome to join the new section and attend the kickoff meeting. According to IMPI’s President, Mr. Bob Schiffmann, the exciting new technology represents a revolution in the world of microwave applications into areas that were not possible in the past and he thus welcomed all individual and corporate members of IMPI who are forming the Solid State Section, to the event.

Dr. Klaus Werner, former Executive Director of the RF Energy Alliance (RFEA) had petitioned the IMPI Board of Governors in late April to form the new section. The vote passed the IMPI Board with overwhelming support. And according to Werner, although the RFEA had to close down, the vision and mission of the former organization are still completely valid and relevant to the state of the solid state RF energy industry. Within IMPI, they now envision a wider audience and active collaborators within the section.

IMPI has seen dynamic growth over the first 4 months of 2019; since January 1st, the Institute has welcomed 9 new Corporate Members: Dipolar (Sweden), Huber + Suhner (Switzerland), Macom (USA), pinkRF (The Netherlands), PrecisePower (USA), Rogers Corporation (USA), TurboChef (USA), Unox S.p.A. (Italy), WavePIA (South Korea). There are currently 195 corporate, professional and student members from 17 countries that comprise the Institute. Charter members of IMPI’s Solid State and RF Energy Section include: Art Aguayo (Rogers Corporation), Angelo Andres and Mark Murphy (Macom), Coen Centen and Patrick Valk (Ampleon), Hannes Grubinger (Huber + Suhner), John Mastela and Enver Krvavac (PrecisePower), Ken Kaplan (Cellencor), Franck Nicholls (NXP), Stephan Holtrup and Klaus Werner (pinkRF).
