The SAF86xx from NXP Semiconductors are One-Chip RFCMOS Radar SoCs that support future distributed automotive radar architectures. They operate from 76 to 81 GHz and have a total bandwidth of 5 GHz. These SoCs consist of 4 transmitters, 4 receivers, ADC conversion, phase rotator, low phase noise VCO, BBE32EP DSP processor, ARM Cortex-M7 core, and SRAM memory to support various use cases in short-range, medium-range, and long-range automotive radar applications. They provide pre-processed radar data such as compressed or uncompressed range-FFT over gigabit Ethernet ports to a radar post-processing unit.

The SAF86xx SoCs are AEC-Q100-qualified and offer designs and layouts that adhere to ISO 26262 safety element out of Context (SEooC) methodology supporting ASIL Level-B. They include built-in future-proof security features such as hardware security engine (HSE) hardware, EVITA Full, SHE+, and MACsec. These SoCs are equipped with SGMII Gbit Ethernet, LinFlexD/UART, CAN-FD (optional), and CSI-2 interfaces, which can be used with software platforms such as RFE firmware, radar SDK, S32 flash tools, and radar Xplorer GUI to configure and monitor the SoCs. They provide support for an external power supply and consume 2.35 W of power.

These RFCMOS SoCs are available in launcher-in packages (option available) that measure 11.95 x 14.00 mm and are ideal for adaptive cruise control, blind spot detection, forward cross-traffic alert, lateral collision avoidance, park assist, side pre-crash warning, and autonomous emergency braking applications.
