The ADMV4728 from Analog Devices is a Transmit/Receive Beamforming IC that operates from 47.2 to 48.2 GHz. It integrates 16 configurable transmit and receive channels containing 8 dual-polarized horizontal and vertical channels. This chip operates in Tx/Rx half-duplex modes and uses external pins to provide fast TDD switching time. It is built on the industry-leading CMOS platform that delivers high efficiency and linear output power. The IC conducts instantaneous power and temperature measurements using built-in Tx power detectors and temperature sensors. It is fully matched to 50-ohms across both single-ended RF input and output ports.
The ADMV4728 controls the phase and amplitude value of each element using high-resolution vector modulators and DGA amplifiers. It provides no degradation in EVM response even at wide 5G NR channel bandwidths and has non-volatile memory to allow full-array phase and gain calibrations. This beamforming IC is available in a surface-mount package that provides efficient heat transfer, thereby improving the efficiency of the device.
