The F5288 from Renesas is an 8-Channel Half-Duplex Tx/Rx Beamformer IC for 5G phased-array applications in the n257 band (26.5 to 29.5 GHz). It provides highly flexible gain and phase control on each channel to achieve fine beam steering and gain compensation between radiating channels. The F5288 provides more than 15.5dBm linear output power for wide-band 5G-NR waveforms.
This dual-polarized IC is designed using a SiGe BiCMOS process and has an integrated PTAT, PTAT2, and band-gap generator, temperature sensor, power detector, an on-chip LDO, and a selectable 2.5V/3.3V supply for Power Amplifiers. This IC requires a DC supply of 2.4-2.6 V and can be controlled via a 65 MHz SPI interface that can support up to 16 devices.
The F5288 provides a gain attenuation range of 30.5 dB and has a Tx/Rx mode switching time of 100 ns with gain and phase settling time of 20 ns. It has a programmable 4-bit chip address and 2048 on-chip programmable beam states. This IC is available in an 18-FCCSP package that measures 5.1 x 5.1 x 0.8 mm and is ideal for 5G single/dual-polarization phased-array antenna systems and beam steering applications.
