The Taurus 16 from Filtronic is a High-Power Amplifier (PA) that operates in the E-Band from 81 to 86 GHz. It delivers a saturated output power of 6.3 W (~38 dBm) with a small signal gain of 21 dB and has a bandwidth of 5 GHz. This amplifier includes two Cerus 8 E-Band amplifier modules, and each module contains eight Filtronic’s GaAs pHEMT PA MMICs. It combines the power performance of the two amplifier modules in a waveguide module to deliver almost double the available output power from each of them. This PA has an integrated temperature sensor to provide users with accurate amplifier temperature data. It also has optional circuitry that facilitates functions such as mute control and alarms.
The Taurus 16 supports 256-QAM modulation schemes and exhibits high linearity during operation. It requires a DC supply of 48 V and consumes less than 2.2 A of current. This amplifier is available in a module that measures 111 x 81 x 40 mm with WR-12 waveguide interfaces and is ideal for commercial and military applications.
