The RAA270205 from Renesas is a mmWave Automotive Radar Transceiver that operates from 76 to 81 GHz. It has 4 independent transmit and receive channels and supports up to 16 MIMO channels for high angular accuracy. This transceiver delivers an output power of 13 dBm per channel and has a programmable Rx noise figure of less than 9 dB per channel. It has a fast ADC with a dynamic range of 68 dB and an on-board engine for range FFT calculation. The transceiver has an integrated mixed-signal RFIC, an on-chip modulator, data converters, and dedicated 360° phase shifters for 79 GHz beamforming. It consumes 970 mW of power and has a power detector at all internal signal nodes for failure detection. This transceiver supports both long- and short-range radar applications.
The RAA270205 satisfies the ISO26262 functional safety requirement with a variety of safety mechanisms such as on-chip loop-back tests, voltage/clock monitors, and digital error checkers. It is available in an eWLB package that measures 7.6 x 5.6 mm and is ideal for automotive applications like imaging RADAR, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Change Assistance (LCA), Blind Spot Detection (BSD) and Front/Rear Cross-Traffic-Alert (FCTA/RCTA).
