The PAN1780 Series from Panasonic is a Bluetooth 5.0 Module based on the Nordic nRF52840 single-chip controller. This module supports Bluetooth Low Energy 5.0 functionality as well as long-range and high-speed modes. By way of a change in the Nordic Soft Device, the PAN1780 Series can also operate as a Bluetooth Low Energy Mesh 1.0 flood mesh device or an 802.15.4 Zigbee or Thread directed-mesh node.
The module supports a data rate of up to 2 Mbps using the high-speed LE 2M PHY or a significantly longer range using the LE coded PHY at 500 kb/s or 125 kb/s. It delivers a Tx power of up to 8 dBm and has a receive sensitivity of -95 dBm @ 1Mb/s. The module requires a DC supply from 1.7 to 5.5 V and has a current consumption of 4.8 mA (Tx and Rx mode), and 1 µA (sleep mode).
The PAN1780 offers high design flexibility and can easily be used in stand-alone mode, thereby eliminating the need for an external processor - saving complexity, space, and cost. It can be controlled by GPIO, UART, QSPI, I2C, I2S, PDM, ADC, PWM, NFC-A, and USB 2.0 interfaces. This device is available in a module that measures 15.6 x 8.7 x 2 mm with a ceramic antenna and supports AT Commands.
The PAN1780 Series also supports Type 2 Near Field Communication (NFC-A) for use in simplified pairing and payment solutions (external antenna required).
