The PAN9028 from Panasonic Industry is a 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2 Combo Module. It is based on NXP® 88W8987 chip and supports Dynamic Rapid Channel Switching (DRCS) for simultaneous operation in 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. This module supports 20 MHz, 40 MHz, and 80 MHz channel bandwidths along with a 1x1 spatial stream with data rates up to 433 Mbps (MCS9, 80 MHz channel bandwidth). It provides a Tx power of 16 dBm (802.11b) and has an Rx sensitivity of -97 dBm (at 802.11b DSSS 1 Mbps). This module supports 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi radio, Bluetooth BR/EDR/Low Energy (LE), and is designed for highly integrated and cost-effective applications.
The PAN9028 requires four different internal voltage levels (from 3.0 to 3.6 V) and has an option for an integrated Power Management IC (PMIC) to ensure only one supply voltage is required (3.3 V). It consumes 320 mA of current in Tx mode, 60 mA of current in Rx mode, and 150 μA of current in power down mode. The Tx power calibration data and Wi-Fi/Bluetooth system parameters are pre-stored on the one-time-programmable memory during production to simplify the certification process and enable faster time-to-market. This module is available in a package that measures 24.0 x 12.0 x 2.8 mm with GPIO, SDIO 3.0, HS UART, and PCM interfaces.
