The SiWx917Y from Silicon Labs are Multi-Protocol Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) 5.4 Modules designed to provide connectivity for energy-sensitive and battery-powered IoT devices. They have an integrated antenna and include worldwide RF regulatory certifications, reducing both time and cost for development and certifications. These modules consist of an ARM Cortex-M4 processor with FPU running up to 180 MHz, memory, baseband digital signal processing, analog front-end, transceiver, a power amplifier, and a rich set of peripherals. The dual-core architecture runs the Wi-Fi 6 and BLE 5.4 applications on separate cores to maximize performance and throughput, and guarantees timely processing of time-sensitive applications.
The SiWx91Y’s Wi-Fi 6 delivers a data rate of 86 Mbps over a channel bandwidth of 20 MHz while the BLE system delivers a data rate of 1/2 Mbps. The Wi-Fi 6 supports several features such as individual target wakeup time, broadcast TWT, intra PPDU power save, MU-MIMO, and Matter support. While, BLE supports up to 8 peripherals and 2 central connections at a time, and has LR duty cycling. These modules include security schemes such as WPA2, secure boot/OTA, and AES-128/256 to protect data connections. These combo modules can be controlled using SDIO, UART, USART, and SPI interfaces and allows over-the-air firmware upgrades.
The SiWx917 deliver an output power of up to 17 dBm (Wi-Fi 6) and 16.5 dBm (BLE), and has a sensitivity of -96 dBm (Wi-Fi 6). These modules require a DC supply from 1.65 to 3.63 V. They are available in modules that measure 16.0 x 21.1 x 2.3 mm. These wireless modules are ideal for smart homes, smart buildings, appliances, asset tracking, consumer health, industrial, and wearable applications.
