The Ophelia-III from Wurth Elektronik is a Bluetooth 5.1 Radio Module that operates from 2360 to 2500 MHz. It is based on Nordic’s nRF52840 Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) SoC that consists of a 32-bit ARM Cortex M4F CPU, 1024 KB flash memory, 256 KB RAM, 2.4 GHz Bluetooth 5.1 radio core. This radio module also incorporates a DC/DC voltage regulator, followed by a high accuracy crystal oscillator, an RF filter, 50-Ohm matching circuit, and an internal PCB antenna. This module’s on-board antenna is optimized for strong miniaturization in the 2.4 GHz band, and for applications that require an external antenna, this module provides a 50 Ohm RF signal on the RF pin for connection.
On the Tx path, it delivers an output power of +8 dBm with a data rate of 2 Mbps, while on the Rx path, it has a receive sensitivity of -90 dBm. It can be used with a proprietary firmware/Wirepas firmware or allows customers to develop their own application based on Nordic nRF Connect SDK. This module can be configured via UART, SPI, I2C, GPIO, and ADC interfaces. It requires a DC supply from 1.8 to 3.6 V and consumes 0.4 µA (sleep mode) of current. The Ophelia-III is available in a module that measures 12 x 8 x 2 mm.
