The AX5043 from Onsemi is a Narrow-band Sub GHz Low-Power RF Transceiver that operates from 27 to 1050 MHz. This transceiver supports FSK, MSK, 4-FSK, GFSK, GMSK, AFSK, and ASK modulations. It offers a unique combination of ultra-low power consumption for transmitting and receive operation combined with the highest sensitivity and high selectivity.
The transceiver has built-in forward error correction (FEC), high efficiency, high linearity integrated power amplifier, ultra-fast settling RF frequency synthesizer with VCO for low-power consumption, a 10-bit general-purpose ADC, and auto-ranging & bandwidth boost modes for fast locking. It delivers an uplink/downlink data rate of up to 125 kbps and has an Rx sensitivity of up to -137 dBm. The transceiver achieves a link budget of 143 dB at 1 kbps, which can be extended to 146 dB without extra external components if the built-in forward error correction (FEC) is used. It works perfectly down to 1 kbps in a 6.25 kHz channel.
The AX5043 requires a DC supply from 1.8 to 3.6 V, consumes less than 48 mA of current in Tx mode and 9.5 mA of current in Rx mode. It has an integrated voltage regulation system that allows the direct use of batteries and short start-up times to enable time- and energy-efficient protocols. The transceiver is available in a QFN28 package that measures 5 x 5 mm with an antenna interface and can be controlled via an SPI interface. It is ideal for use in IoT (Internet of Things), Automated Meter Reading (AMR), security applications, building automation, wireless networks, and battery-powered portable applications.
