The M17-27A from General Dynamics Mission Systems is an Airborne Antenna that is designed for SATCOM-on-the-Move (SOTM) applications. It operates from 7.9 – 8.4 GHz / 13.75 – 14.50 GHz (Tx mode) and 7.25 – 7.75 GHz / 10.95 – 12.75 GHz (Rx mode). This antenna has a modular design and leverages a common gimbal with band-swappable RF payloads to enable swift frequency band changeover. It has an embedded tracking receiver for rapid satellite acquisition (independent of the modem). This antenna is designed for extended-duration airborne intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions where beyond the line of sight (BLOS) SATCOM capabilities are mission critical.
The M17-27A has an aperture of 27 inches and ensures superior link availability and performance over a wide range of operational conditions. It includes the positioner, servo controller, tracking receiver, and complete suite of RF components. This antenna has multiple polarization options, and delivers a linear output power of more than 30 W (Ku Band) and an EIRP of better than 48.8 dBW. This antenna has a satellite acquisition time of less than 30 seconds (cold start) and 5 seconds (hot start). It uses non-proprietary interfaces for power, Ethernet/serial, and L-Band IF Tx/Rx.
The M17-27A is compliant with ARSTRAT (X), Skynet (X), and FCC ESAA requirements and is qualified for use aboard General Atomics SkyGuardian and SeaGuardian UAVs.
