The SG384 from SRS is a Signal Generator that operates from DC to 4.05 GHz. It uses a unique, innovative architecture (Rational Approximation Frequency Synthesis) to deliver ultra-high frequency resolution (1 μHz), excellent phase noise, and versatile modulation capabilities (AM, FM, ΦM, pulse modulation and sweeps) at a fraction of the cost of competing designs.
The generator includes an over-controlled crystal oscillator (OCXO) timebase that provides very low phase noise and very low aging. Remote operation is supported with GPIB, RS-232 and Ethernet interfaces. All instrument functions can be controlled and read over any of the interfaces.
The generator has two front-panel outputs with overlapping frequency ranges. One port has a BNC connector provides outputs from DC to 62.5 MHz with adjustable offsets and amplitudes from 1mV to 1Vrms into a 50 ohm load. The other port has an N-type output connector and supplies a frequency from 950 kHz to 4.05 GHz with power from +16.5 dBm to –110 dBm (1 Vrms to 0.707 μVrms) into a 50 ohm load. It is available as a benchtop enclosure that measures 8.5 x 3.5 x 13 inches.
