The R&S®RadEsT from Rohde & Schwarz is a high-performance Automotive Radar Target Simulator, operating within the 76 to 81 GHz range, designed to enable precise and dynamic radar testing. It captures, modifies, and returns signals from radar sensors, effectively simulating radar targets across distances from 2.5 to 250 meters. With a configurable velocity range of 0 to ±500 km/h and attenuation/RCS over 40 dB, it provides flexibility for diverse automotive radar scenarios.
This advanced simulator can measure power levels from -60 to -25 dBm at 24 GHz and supports an EIRP of up to +55 dBm on the receive frontend and +10 dBm on the transmit frontend. It has a sophisticated antenna setup, including 12 polarized patch antennas for both transmission and reception, allowing target angle simulation without mechanical adjustment. The compact patch antennas and absorber-covered surface minimize reflections and multipath interference, ensuring a clean RF frontend and low RCS.
This Radar simulator supports MIMO sensors, simulates various road user reflections, and includes an automated self-check system that identifies performance drifts against preset thresholds. It connects via LAN for remote control and can also operate on battery power, offering enhanced portability. This test system is available in a benchtop enclosure measuring 86.5 x 138.6 x 275 mm. It is ideal for efficiently testing radar-based autonomous driving functions, including automatic emergency braking (AEB) and adaptive cruise control (ACC).
