The nRF7002 from Nordic Semiconductor is a 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi 6 Companion IC for low-power and secure IoT applications. It is designed to provide seamless Wi-Fi connectivity and Wi-Fi-based location (SSID sniffing of local Wi-Fi hubs) alongside Nordic’s existing products. This IC has 1 spatial stream (SS) and a channel bandwidth of 20 MHz. It supports up to 86 Mbps of PHY throughput using the 64 QAM (MCS7) modulation technique. This IC supports OFDMA technology in both downlink and uplink along with BSS coloring feature.
The nRF7002 is designed to be used alongside Nordic’s existing nRF52 and nRF53 Series Bluetooth SoCs, nRF91 Series cellular IoT SiPs as well as in conjunction with non-Nordic host devices. It supports Matter, Bluetooth LE for commissioning, Thread for low-power mesh, & Wi-Fi for high throughput and complies with IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax. It can be controlled via an SPI/QSPI interface. The chip is available in a 6 x 6 mm QFN or WLCSP package that measures 3.4 x 3.8 mm.
