What are EMI Receivers?

EMI receivers are high-performance instrumentation that acquires Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) data for analysis. They are plugged into the on-site power port, and it automatically captures EMI data and displays the time of occurrence of electromagnetic disturbance and the extreme value of transient voltage & frequency which provides a true basis for formulating anti-interference measures.

EMI receivers are used for scenarios where transient signals or spurious emissions may appear and must be acquired with fast acquisition rates. Data recorded by EMI receivers can also be used to test the true effects of anti-interference measures.

Important parameters when looking for an EMI Receiver:

  • Operating Frequency: It is the range of frequencies over which an EMI receiver can detect EMI signals.
  • Accuracy: This refers to how precisely an EMI receiver can detect EMI signals in terms of their number of occurrences per minute.
  • Attenuation: It is the reduction in signal strength caused by the EMI receiver when plugged into the on-site port.
  • EMC Standards: EMC standards are norms that define terms, rules and test methods for EMC (electromagnetic compatibility). EMI receivers may be compliant with multiple EMC standards like CISPR16-1-1, ANSIC63.2, MIL-STD-461, FCC etc.
