What are RF over Fiber (RFoF) Modules?
RF over Fiber (RFoF) modules are used to convert an RF signal to an optical signal and transmit it over a fiber channel and then convert it back to an RF signal. The primary reason to design the RF over Fiber modules is to replace coaxial cables as they hamper the signal quality when used for transmission over long distances. Optical lines are almost lossless whereas coaxial cables can only transmit signals up to 300 ft (approx.).
The critical elements of an RFoF module are Optical Transmitter, Fiber Optic Cable, and Optical Receiver.
The optical transmitter converts an RF signal into an optical signal whose amplitude is proportional to the input RF voltage applied. This signal is then transmitted through fiber channel to cover a long-distance without loss. The Optical Receiver receives the signal, converts it back to an RF signal. These modules are placed along with the transmitting and receiving antenna and can be designed specifically for low and high-frequency operation.
The RFoF modules are in applications like SATCOM, GPS, Satellite ground stations, Radars, VSAT gateways, Broadcasting (wireless cameras), and Maritime.
everything RF has listed over 10 RF over fiber modules from the leading manufacturers. The list of modules can be narrowed down based on the Type, Frequency, Connectors and other parameters. When you find RFOF modules that meet your requirement, you can view more information on the products, download datasheets or Request a Quote/Information. Your inquiry will be sent to the manufacturer and/or their distributors in your region who will then get back to you with the required information.
