What is a Shielded Test Enclosure or Box?
A shielded test box is an enclosure that is used test RF and Microwave devices in an isolated test environment, where there is no interference from other devices. These test boxes provide isolation from unintentional electromagnetic interference in noisy environments.
It is important to test devices in an isolated environment to understand how it performing. Shielded test enclosures provide an easy way to do this. Traditionally, this would need to be done in an anechoic chamber which is a large room and is comparatively very expensive. Shielded test chambers are compact boxes which can be placed on the table in a test lab.
Important Parameters of a Shielded Test Enclosure:
Type: This would be the configuration or form factor of the enclosure - Rack Mount Shielded Box, Stand Alone Shielded Box or Benchtop/Desktop Shielded Box.
Frequency Range: This is the frequency range in which the enclosure will provide isolation from interference. Based on the application of the device you need to test, you can pick a frequency that works best for you.
Isolation: This is the measure of the efficiency of the test enclosure i.e. higher the isolation, the better is the shielding the box provides.
Interface: This is important as is how you would connect to the devices places inside the shielded text box. These boxes usually support multiple interfaces with which you can connect to the device inside the box.
