MWC 2020 Cancelled Due to Coronavirus

The Mobile World Congress (MWC) Event that was set to take place in Barcelona from 24 to 27 February 2020 has been cancelled. On 12 February 2020, GSMA Issued a statement saying they took this decision to cancel the event because of the global concern regarding the coronavirus outbreak, travel concern and other circumstances, which made it impossible for the GSMA to hold the event.

This cancellation comes after a number of companies including LG, Ericsson, Amazon, CommScope, Intel, Cisco, MediaTek, Nokia, NTT Docomo, Spirent and a long list of other companies started to withdraw from participating in the event. Click here to read more.

Pivotal Announces Commercial Shipment of a 28 GHz Repeater for 5G Applications

IWCE Releases Program Agenda for 2020 Edition, Registrations Now Open

IWCE, the leading annual event for critical communications technology professionals, has released the full program for its 44th annual conference to be held at the Las Vegas Conference Center from March 30^th - April 3^rd 2020. Organizers expect more than 7,000 attendees for this year’s five-day day event which offers a two-day expo, educational workshops, short courses, power sessions, keynote addresses, town hall meetings, and networking events. Drones Being Used to Create Mobile Networks for Disaster Sites During Emergencies

Innovative technology solutions expert, Blue innovation, has announced a partnership with leading electronics manufacturer, Kyocera, to develop drone-based high speed mobile networks for disaster sites and other areas. The new drone communications technology is being displayed at the Blue innovation booth during CES 2020 in Las Vegas.

By flying multiple drones with mobile relay station functions in areas where mobile phone signals do not reach, such as disaster sites, the “moving communication relay station system” enables reliable mobile phone communication as if under normal circumstances. By combining Blue innovation’s system platform technology such as Blue Earth Platform, which enables remote control of several drones, with Kyocera’s wireless communication technology developed through its communication equipment business, the companies will develop a moving drone-enabled communication relay station. WiGig Market to Grow 4x to Over $4 Billion by 2024

According to a new report published by ResearchAndMarkets, the WiGig market is projected to grow from $1 Billion in 2019 to over $4 Billion in 2024 at a CAGR of 27.9%.

The major factors aiding in the swift growth of the WiGig market are the rising sale of portable consumer electronics and surging demand for high-speed internet connectivity. Developed by Wireless Gigabit Alliance, WiGig is a set of 60 GHz connectivity protocols, allowing data transfer at speeds of up to 7 Gbps. Keysight Delivers Over 600 Validated 5G-NR Test Cases for US Mobile Operators

Keysight Technologies has announced that early engagements with all four U.S. mobile operators have resulted in more than 600 validated 5G-NR test cases, using Keysight’s 5G network emulation solution suite.

Keysight’s 5G network emulation solution suite also delivers the leading number of 5G NR test cases validated by major operators in other countries, including China, Korea, and Japan. Keysight leveraged contributions to the 5G NR standards and certification forums such as 3GPP, Global Certification Forum (GCF) and PTCRB, to create a comprehensive range of test cases used by mobile operators and their ecosystem of device makers to ensure new 5G devices operate as intended on their networks. 60 GHz mm-Wave Wireless Module with High-Gain Phased Array Antenna

Fujikura has started shipping a 60 GHz Millimeter-Wave Wireless Communications Module that uses a High-gain phased array antenna which realizes high-speed wireless communication in the 60 GHz frequency band. Their compact design combines a baseband wireless modem with an RF front end and antenna.

This module is based on the IEEE 802.11ad (WiGig) standard and provides features such as high-power transmission output, scalable channel bandwidth and high-order modulation support. It employs low loss LCP circuit board material and a board layout design that optimizes RF-IC performance for even higher output. This allows it to achieve world-class long-distance transmissions. FCC Authorizes Commercial Deployment of CBRS in the US

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has approved the commercial deployment of Citizen’s Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) in the 3.5 GHz band in the U.S. It is an extremely important milestone in utilizing dynamic spectrum access for next-generation technologies.

CBRS is the most advanced commercially available technology in dynamic spectrum sharing and is essential for enabling the most efficient and intensive commercial use of the 3.5 GHz mid-band spectrum that is critical for 5G. WInnForum Adds New Specifications to the CBRS Standard

The Wireless Innovation Forum (WInnForum), a non-profit mutual benefit corporation encouraging spectrum innovation and advancing radio technologies, has approved a new Release 2 specification (WINNF-TS-1001) defining enhancements to the baseline CBRS Operational and Functional Requirements. The new specification defines optional features and functionality that can be incorporated at any time, with a special focus on supporting specific vertical markets and their deployments.

The new release of the CBRS standards opens the way for substantial additional innovation in the CBRS band. Now anyone can rapidly add features to CBRS simply by contributing a suitable appendix to the Release 2 specification, and, pending committee approval and appropriate certification requirements, the feature is ready for adoption by CBRS users, equipment manufacturers, and Spectrum Access System (SAS) Administrators, on demand. Metamaterial Reflectors Being Used to Enhance 5G Signal Propagation

MIRAIT Corporation, a leading information & communication engineering solutions provider and Metawave Corporation, developer of data communication antenna and in-vehicle millimeter-wave radar, have conducted radio wave propagation experiments in the quasi-millimeter wave band (20 to 30 GHz) using metamaterial reflectors. They confirmed that the result reached the expected performance level.

MIRAIT is working to accelerate the technological development of the next-generation 5G mobile communication system, and emerging enterprise local 5G, which will start in earnest in the spring of 2020. Metawave has state-of-the-art technology in this field. Since last December, MIRAIT has been evaluating to confirm the practicality of Metawave’s metamaterial reflectors, which are attracting attention as an effective tool for building 5G areas. In this experiment, basic electromagnetic coupling and radiation characteristics such as the reflectance of the metamaterial reflector were confirmed. From here on, the two companies will confirm the effectiveness of metamaterial reflectors in 5G area construction based on a series of processes such as 3D data conversion of indoor space, radio wave propagation simulation, and reflector design.
