Report Analyzes RF Front End Components Used in Leading Smartphones

After many years of continuous growth, the global smartphone market saw a slowdown in 2018. This slowdown had a direct impact on the RF Front-End market which also saw a decline in demand last year. According to a recent Yole Développement (Yole) report, 5G will come to the rescue and drive the RF Front-End market to grow at a CAGR of 8% from 2018 to 2025. The market was estimated to be USD $15 billion in 2018, and is expected to reach USD $25.8 billion by 2025.

With LTE, RF front-end market growth came from carrier aggregation and MIMO technologies. 5G will augment RF front-end market growth with additional frequency bands, dual connectivity implementation, and the transition to 4×4 MIMO in the downlink direction and 2×2 MIMO for the uplink. NI Extends RF Test Coverage for Wi-Fi 6 Components above 6 GHz

National Instruments (NI) has released a new Wi-Fi 6 Front-End test reference architecture. The new solution offers comprehensive, accurate and fast testing of the latest Wi-Fi 6 power amplifiers (PAs) and front-end modules (FEMs) operating in new frequency bands above 6 GHz.

Meeting the need for Wi-Fi test coverage in recently approved bands from 6 to 7.125 GHz, NI’s Wi-Fi 6 Front-End test reference architecture extends the high bandwidth, accuracy and fast measurement speed of the Vector Signal Transceiver (VST), a widely deployed and proven workhorse device that combines an RF signal generator and signal analyzer with 1 GHz of instantaneous bandwidth - up to 12 GHz. This solution provides engineers performing PA/FEM characterization and validation excellent linearity, low noise and high dynamic range for thoroughly validating Wi-Fi 6 1024-QAM performance. CMT Launches New Series of Low Cost USB Controlled VNAs up to 9 GHz

Copper Mountain Technologies has released a new series of modular 2-port compact VNA for 2-path measurements from 300 kHz to 9 GHz. The SC Series consists of the SC5065 that operates from 300 kHz to 6.5 GHz and the SC5090 that operates from 300 kHz to 9 GHz.

The SC Series of network analyzers feature 140 dB dynamic range, 15 dBm output power, and a typical measurement speed of 16 µs per point. These USB controlled VNA's are a cost-effective and have excellent technical specifications, suitable for telecommunication, automotive, IoT, aerospace, medical devices, and other industries that require reliable test and measurement devices. NI Introduces mm-Wave 5G OTA Validation Test Solution from 24 to 44 GHz

National Instruments (NI) has introduced a hardware-accelerated 5G mmWave OTA Validation Test reference architecture for thorough characterization and validation of 5G mmWave beamforming AiP (Antenna in Package) devices. NI’s mmWave OTA Validation Test reference architecture achieves fast speeds for OTA (Over-the-Air) spatial sweeps in the 5G mmWave bands from 24 to 44 GHz, helping users significantly reduce OTA RF validation test times for AiP (Antenna-in-Package) devices, compared to traditional point-by-point, software-controlled test systems.

This new reference architecture gives characterization and validation engineers working on the latest 5G AiP devices the advantage of addressing their devices’ beamforming performance with wider and more complex 5G NR signals while shortening development schedules.
