SweGaN Launches New 150 mm GaN-on-SiC Epiwafer Product for RF Applications

SweGaN AB, a manufacturer of GaN-on-SiC epitaxial wafers based on unique epitaxial growth technologies for telecom, satellite, defense, and power applications, has announced that they have relocated their headquarters to a new facility in Linköping, Sweden. The new facility combines a lab housing several production tools and an administration and office area. Concurrently, SweGaN announced the introduction of 150 mm (6-inch) QuanFINE GaN-on-SiC epiwafers to its product portfolio for RF and high-power switching devices.

The new headquarters are located 200 meters from Linköping University and 10 km from Linköping’s international airport, making easy access for customer and partner visits. Anritsu Introduces 43.5 GHz Extended-K Coaxial Connector Family for Test Equipment

Anritsu Company has introduced the Extended-K™ family of coaxial connectors with mode-free and traceable performance up to 43.5 GHz. The new Extended-K family provides price and performance benefits, along with guaranteed electrical specifications, high reliability, and environmental robustness in numerous high-frequency applications, including 5G backhaul, aerospace/defense satellites, and millimeter wave (mmWave) body scanner designs. For designs and configuration that do not require frequency coverage beyond 43.5 GHz, the new flexible Extended-K connectors can serve as an alternative to retooling a test set for 2.4 mm connectors.

The performance of all Extended-K connectors is traceable to a national metrology institute. Its mode-free performance to 43.5 GHz eliminates the possibility of incorrect measurement data at a resonance point. The connectors provide true parameter performance in the proposed frequency band with a 99% level of confidence. Qualcomm Using Soitec's Piezoelectric-on-Insulator Substrate to Develop 5G RF Filters

Empower RF Releases 90 KW Scalable Liquid Cooled SSPA from 5.2 to 5.9 GHz

Empower RF has released a new long duty cycle pulsed amplifier that operates from 5.2 to 5.9 GHz and represents the company’s new technologically advanced liquid cooled, scalable architecture. CommScope Introduces Portable Wi-Fi Solution for Outdoor Sites

CommScope has introduced the Wireless Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU), an innovative way to quickly deliver safe, reliable, and high-speed Wi-Fi, or other wireless technologies to users in a range of environments. The RDU was developed by the CommScope Professional Services Team in response to the growing demand for a mobile Wi-Fi solution providing ad hoc connectivity in a range of environments—including concerts, parades, pop-up medical facilities, emergency response centers, and remote learning and access sites.

The system uses RUCKUS T610 outdoor access points and a telescopic mast to deliver cost-effective, carrier-grade Wi-Fi in a small, forklift-ready 4’x4’ footprint. The RDU is equipped with wheels so that, once delivered to a site, it can be easily towed or maneuvered into position. The mast can readily accept other devices to support LTE or IoT applications. The RDU is powered by an on-board generator and can use a variety of backhaul methods including fiber, ethernet, LTE or DOCSIS. This unit is now in full production, with CommScope factories and partners ready to meet demand in the United States, Canada and U.S. territories in the Caribbean. The US Needs to Expand its 5G Spectrum by Licensing Mid-Band Frequencies

According to a new study from Analysys Mason, The U.S. needs to expand its 5G spectrum pipeline and license the lower 3 GHz band for commercial use in order to keep pace with other countries that are moving aggressively to make mid-band spectrum available for next-generation 5G networks.

The study finds that the U.S. has no licensed spectrum today in a key swath of mid-band spectrum from 3.3-3.6 GHz, while other benchmark countries that have made these airwaves available average nearly 200 megahertz. If the U.S. government moved quickly to make the lower 3 GHz band available for commercial 5G operations, the U.S. would become a "leading benchmark" country in this area, according to Analysys Mason. Radio Frequency Duplexer Market to Grow 11% Annually from 2020 to 2025

A radio frequency duplexer is an electronic device that is used to simultaneously transmit and receive radio frequency signals through a common antenna port. New Test Solution Optimizes Performance of 5G Devices that Use MIMO Technology

Keysight Technologies has launched a new test solution that optimizes the performance of 5G devices that use MIMO and massive MIMO technology to increase data throughput and improve network capacity.

Keysight's S8708A Advanced Performance Test Toolset enables an ecosystem consisting of eighty-four 5G device vendors to validate device performance under accurate and real-world conditions using 3D fading and mobility scenarios. Keysight's new toolset includes the company's PROPSIM FS16 or F64 channel emulator, UXM 5G Wireless Test Platform, and 3D OTA multiprobe anechoic chambers, and supports test cases specified by 3GPP for MIMO over-the-air (OTA) testing in study item (TR38.827), which included contributions from Keysight. BAE Systems has announced the delivery of the first shipment of its next-generation radiation-hardened software defined radios (SDR) powered by its RAD5545 computer, to Lockheed Martin Space. The radios provide spacecrafts with the performance, availability, reliability and on-board signals processing capacity needed to support future space missions - from planetary exploration to communications, national security, surveillance, and weather missions. The SDRs are ideal for any mission requiring reconfigurable radio processing. They can be easily modified to address various reconfigurable processing solutions.

New Ericsson Software Helps Operators Shift to Standalone 5G NR

Ericsson has launched their Standalone 5G NR software for 5G mid and low bands which will enable communications service providers to tap the full potential of 5G New Radio (NR) technology. The software was made globally available to all customers in June.

With this software, communications service providers can now operate 5G NR without the need for signalling support from an underlying LTE network. This will allow service providers to add 5G NR to existing 4G sites with a simpler architecture, or deploy 5G independently in new areas such as factories, to support enterprise applications and services.
