First Wireless Flying Robotic Insect Powered by Laser Waves

Engineers at the University of Washington have been working to develop Insect-sized flying robots. These robots could help with time-consuming tasks like surveying crop growth on large farms or sniffing out gas leaks or a number of other applications. They can fly by fluttering tiny wings as they are too small to use propellers, like those used by drones. NYU Tandon Wins Spot in DARPA Consortium to Jumpstart Wireless Innovation

While 5G wireless technologies and protocols are still in development, researchers at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering are reaching even further into the future as partners in ComSenTer, a newly formed hub for advanced wireless and sensing research founded by a consortium of industrial participants and the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). ComSenTer is the latest initiative in the Joint University Microelectronics Program(JUMP), with $200 million of funding to accelerate innovation in microelectronics-based technologies, including wireless communications. World's First 100 Gbps Wireless Transmission Using Orbital Angular Momentum Multiplexing

Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT) has successfully demonstrated 100 Gbps wireless transmission using Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) multiplexing. This is the first time OAM multiplexing has been used for wirelessly transmitting such a high data rate. The eventual aim of this project is to achieve terabit-class wireless transmission to support the demand for wireless communications in the 2030s. It was shown in a laboratory environment that dramatic leaps in transmission capacity could be achieved by an NTT-devised system that mounts data signals on electromagnetic waves generated by this new principle of OAM multiplexing in combination with widely used Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) technology. NEC to Provide 5G Base Station Equipment to NTT DOCOMO

NEC Corporation has entered into an agreement with NTT DOCOMO to provide control units for 5G base station equipment for the commercialization of 5G services. NEC is slated to carry out development that enables existing communication equipment, such as high-density base station equipment, to be fully compatible with 5G.
