GCT Semiconductor has announced that its LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) GDM7243Q chip featuring 4X4 multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna technology powers Huawei’s 4X4 MIMO B5328 LTE home modem for Jilin Mobile, a subsidiary of China Mobile. The B5328 LTE home modem (LTE CPE), announced by Huawei, will be first used on Jilin Mobile’s new 4X4 MIMO TDD LTE network and is the industry’s first commercial indoor LTE home modem supporting 4X4 MIMO LTE-A.
The GDM7243Q is the only commercially available LTE-A chip that offers 4x4 MIMO capability. By integrating the receiver with four antennas and equipping the base station with four transmitters, mobile operators can maximize the use of their spectrum. They get increased throughput and data rates and increased capacity with minimal cost in new infrastructure. GDM7243Q delivers LTE Category 5/6/7 throughputs with double speeds enabled by 4X4 MIMO technology, and supports Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and eMBMS (LTE broadcast) as well as other advanced features.
