Intel’s Home Gateway Platform to Use Isolated Mode Antenna Technology

SkyCross has announced that its iMAT (Isolated Mode Antenna Technology) 4X4 MIMO antennas have been incorporated by Intel in to the ANYWAN GRX350/550/750 Smart Home Gateway platform. Intel’s standard design utilizes 4 iMAT antennas, which replace 8 antennas used in the prior design, while providing a 30% increase in download speed.

SkyCross’ patented iMAT technology allows product designers to locate multiple 4G LTE MIMO or multi-band Wi-Fi antennas in close proximity while still achieving the high isolation/low correlation needed for MIMO architectures. Although the multiple antennas are closely co-located and operate on the same frequency at the same time, iMAT technology eliminates the performance issues associated with mutual coupling and high pattern correlation coefficient that occurs when traditional antennas are closely spaced.

iMAT technology enables a single antenna structure in thin or small wireless devices to behave like multiple antennas through the use of multiple feeds for MIMO operation. Historically, it has been a challenge to arrange multiple antennas without interference from each other, particularly for small mobile devices such as smartphones, USB modems, netbooks, and others. iMAT addresses industry requirements of many next-generation protocols including LTE and WiMAX that require multiple antennas for MIMO. Each feed accesses the antenna as if it consisted of multiple antennas, each with high isolation, low correlation, and high per-feed antenna efficiency. The resulting improvement in antenna gain and receiver sensitivity significantly enhances device performance and network capacity.

SkyCross Dual iMAT technology eliminates interference between closely spaced antennas. It allows four 4X4 MIMO antennas to compactly fit into a smartphone, tablet, or ultrabook/PC form factor, with the same or better performance provided by widely spaced traditional antennas.

iMAT supports legacy networks and is essential for advanced protocols such as LTE, 802.11ac, and others that require diversity or MIMO. Any wireless device including smartphones, handsets, data cards, USB dongles, laptops, personal navigation devices, cameras, gaming devices, and more can now take advantage of advanced antenna solutions for voice, data, location, and video applications while maintaining their sleek designs.

SkyCross’ advanced iMAT antennas and solutions have been available since 2014 and have been deployed commercially in more than ten million smart devices. iMAT technology has been actively tested and validated on several operator networks globally.
