IEEE, has announced an upcoming IEEE 5G Summit to be held from 17-18 March 2017 in Kolkata, India. Through IEEE 5G Summits and other activities, the IEEE 5G Initiative is working to connect the unconnected and drive innovation through next-generation wireless network technology that is expected to significantly increase data speeds, produce ultra-low latency times, support the connection of many more devices, and increase energy efficiency of network elements.
The IEEE 5G Summit at Kolkata, India, will bring together experts from industry, academia, and government providing a meeting ground for the confluence and exchange of ideas. Themed “Digital India,” the Summit will help illuminate challenges and opportunities presented by 5G with an emphasis on the Indian context.
The program includes keynote addresses, invited talks, and research forum presentations. At the Summit IEEE 5G Initiative co-chair, IEEE Communications Society Distinguished Lecturer, and lead member, technical staff at AT&T Ashutosh Dutta will speak on the IEEE 5G Initiative; he will go on to give his Distinguished Lecture series talk, Security Challenges and Opportunities in SDN/NFV and 5G Networks in several Indian cities in March.
With previous IEEE 5G Summits already being held in many regions of the world, The Kolkata Summit will allow students, researchers, and technology developers to become more aware of the research activities initiated worldwide through IEEE for the development of 5G mobile technologies. The event will be held jointly by the IEEE Communications Society Kolkata Chapter, IEEE Circuits and Systems Society Kolkata Chapter, and Global ICT Standardization Forum for India.
The IEEE 5G Initiative works to advance 5G, which stands to serve as the cornerstone of future wireless networks. From its road-mapping work, to education and standardization efforts, IEEE 5G offers a number of critical efforts with which to connect. With a majority of population unconnected in India and other regions, the 'Frugal 5G' concept, according to IEEE, is an economical, efficient way to quickly connect the unconnected by cost-effectively rolling out a version of 5G via IP-based network architecture leveraging dynamic spectrum management. The concept will thus help mobilize the next generation of telecommunications in an effective, interoperable, and standardized way that enables greater innovation.
