The R&S QPS200 millimeter-wave security scanner from Rohde & Schwarz has been now certified by the TSA for use at US and international aviation and other security checkpoints. According to the TSA certification the R&S QPS200 millimeter wave technology meets TSA’s stringent aviation security detection requirements. The QPS200 security scanner uses safe millimeter wave radio frequency technology to screen passengers automatically for concealed threats while protecting the passengers privacy.
It is the first Rohde & Schwarz AIT system to achieve TSA detection certification. It has already achieved certification by the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) and is currently in use at airports across Europe. The millimeter wave technology is based on the company's many years of expertise in developing test and measurement equipment. The QPS system requires only a few milliseconds to scan passengers, which can speed up checkpoint-screening operations and increase through-put at airports.
Privacy is protected by the use of a generic outline of a person to indicate to operators the location of an alarm. Scanning is easy as individuals simply stand in front of the system with their arms held slightly away from the body and the system automatically detects potentially dangerous objects on the body. This system uses low power millimeter wave technology and transmits about the same power as a mobile phone.
